Position Description

The Senior Writer will provide expert-level writing and editorial support for USAID, creating high-quality communication materials that promote USAID's IT strategic goals and adhere to Federal Government IT and cybersecurity mandates. This position demands advanced technical writing expertise to convey complex IT and cybersecurity topics, policies, and initiatives in a clear, professional, and engaging manner for diverse audiences. The Senior Writer will also assist in developing strategic recommendations and stakeholder communications, positioning USAID leadership as thought leaders in federal IT.

Location: Washington, DC

Work: Full-time; Hybrid 

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Facility-level clearance

Responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, and finalize high-quality written materials, including white papers, reports, and policy documents, that accurately represent USAID’s IT initiatives, goals, and compliance with federal mandates.
  • Develop speeches, presentations, press releases, blog posts, and articles for both internal and external stakeholders, effectively communicating USAID's IT strategic vision and leadership.
  • Research and generate content on critical IT and cybersecurity topics—such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing—tailored to specific audiences, including Congressional committees, federal agencies, and industry stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with USAID leadership to design a strategic communications plan, including multi-channel content distribution, to enhance visibility and support IT objectives.
  • Write and coordinate internal and external communications, such as newsletters and intranet content, to increase awareness and engagement with USAID’s IT initiatives.
  • Ensure all communications materials adhere to best practices in technical writing, meeting USAID’s standards for accuracy, clarity, and professionalism.
  • Proofread, edit, and review all materials to maintain consistency with USAID's quality standards, organizational objectives, and branding.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on program progress, compliance, and communication performance for USAID leadership.
  • Monitor and assess the impact of communication strategies, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Management, Engineering, Information Technology, Communications, Business, or another relevant scientific, technical, or management discipline.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in technical writing or a closely related field, with substantial focus on IT, cybersecurity, or government communications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated expertise in technical writing for IT and federal audiences.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex IT and cybersecurity information and translate it into clear, accessible content for various audiences.
  • Experience working closely with senior leadership and technical experts to ensure content accuracy and alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Familiarity with IT and cybersecurity topics, federal IT mandates, and strategic communications principles.
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Facility-level clearance
